Highland Quaich Report

The Highland Quaich tournament has become a very well attended event over the last few years...

Held annually in October, the tournament in 2018 to Inverness Golf Course where the event has been held ever since. Inverness Golf Course was established in 1883 and designed by George Smith and J J Fraser, with alterations made by the renowned course designer and Open Champion James Braid, the course provides an enjoyable and challenging test for any golfer.

On Friday the 8th October 2021, after the obligatory and superb bacon rolls were devoured, members and their guests gathered for a group photo before SPOA President and fellow Highlander Callum Mackintosh saw them off at the 1st, a friendly 293 yard, Par 4. Refreshments at the starters hut were kindly sponsored by Morris Leslie Plant Hire Inverness, golfers were encouraged to help themselves from the skip of a new Mecalac 1t high lift dumper.

Throughout the day our event photographer Paul Campbell followed the groups round and managed to take some excellent “fly on the wall” shots before the golfers arrived at the half way house on the 10th for further refreshments sponsored by the President’s business, Highland Hammer Hire / HHH Equipment. The 10th can be a challenging drive, out of bounds skirting the length of the fairway and some well placed bunkers mean you’re doing well to finish this hole in Par.

Curling Pond the 15th was chosen for nearest the pin, a tough hole too. Completing the back nine was a longest drive competition on the 18th , it’s a long Par 4 at 444 yards and made for good viewing from the clubhouse as everyone made their way back in.

Spirits naturally high and the buzz increasing in the clubhouse as the delicious lunch came out, hard to tell if it was the superb chicken lemonaise or the anticipation of the results from that gave the atmosphere… we think it was both!
