Making the annual dinner a calendar highlight

As members came together earlier this month for our annual dinner, President Callum Mackintosh reflects on the evening and the transformation of this annual event over the last few years.

“The dinner was a real success. 400 guests from across the industry came together to enjoy good company, great food and excellent entertainment,” says Callum. “I am proud of how we have modernised this event over the last couple of years to make it a must-attend event that is a real highlight of the year for our members.

“Not only have we revamped it by bringing in first class entertainment with well-known personalities like comedian Fred MacAulay, but we have also turned it into a profitable event. This has enabled us to use half of that profit to continue the important work of the Association to represent our members on the issues that matter and put the remaining half into the Aitken White Memorial Trust.

“On a night where we recognised Deklyn Feather and Andrew Manson as Plant Operator and Plant Mechanic Apprentices of the Year, it is fitting that we will now be giving £9,500 to the Aitken White Memorial Trust as we continue to encourage and support young people to follow a career in our industry.

“I would like to thank JCB and CITB who sponsored our Apprentices of the Year awards. Now a permanent feature of the annual dinner, I know that this really helps to inspire our members to consider taking on apprentices. The package put together by JCB for Deklyn and Andrew is something most of us who have been in the industry for a while can only dream of!

“I’d also like to thank our platinum sponsors Merlo UK and HRN Tractors, whose latest products displayed at the Glasgow Hilton looked sensational and I know from their feedback that this event is a great opportunity for them to connect with members.

“Thanks to all those who helped with the organisation of the event and thanks to all our members who bought a ticket, donated prizes and gave money to the Aitken White Memorial Trust in the auction on the night. See you in 2024!”
