Update on SPOA Youth Sports Sponsorship Programme 2025

As previously announced, we have been delighted to support six community youth sports clubs this year. Through SPOA Youth Sports Sponsorship, we are helping to provide new kit to the following clubs:

  • Auchterarder Community FC
  • North Lanarkshire Chiefs Basketball Club
  • Strathendrick Rugby FC
  • Falkirk Football Club Foundation 2015s
  • Hillwood FC 2014s
  • Team Kay Curling

We look forward to sharing images of the teams in their new kits soon, but for now here is a short update on what the teams have been up to.

Auchterarder Community FC

Auchterarder Community FC has been able to order kits for three of its youth teams, with the 2020s, 2013s and 2014s teams now getting new kits for the upcoming season. The mock-ups look great so we can’t wait to see the teams in their kits in the next few weeks and share these images with SPOA members.

Falkirk Football Club Foundation 2015s

The club’s Reds team is delighted to have remained in the second top tier of the league pyramid, with the boys looking forward to receiving their new kits ahead of the season starting.

North Lanarkshire Chiefs Basketball Club

The club’s new kits will be arriving from the supplier any day now and, in the meantime, the SPOA has supported the club with a raffle prize for its awards presentation and fundraising night in August. Through this, the club hopes to raise further funds to allow it to continue to be inclusive for all.

Strathendrick Rugby FC

Strathendrick Rugby FC is working with its supplier to ensure the girls’ team (pictured) will have training tops that are women’s fit, allowing for the girls to wear and play sport in clothing they feel comfortable in. The contact top will be worn at each training session and the durability of the top means it won’t get ripped during tackling. The zippers will be worn by players pre and post games and will help the girls look and feel smart and comfortable during the post-match hospitality with opposition teams and families. We can’t wait to see the girls kitted out in these!

Hillwood FC 2014s

Hillwood FC 2014s has been enjoying the summer break and is currently seeking a supplier to get the new SPOA supported kits arranged. The team will be ready and raring to go for the new season!

Team Kay Curling

Team Kay Curling has announced that all four of its players have been invited to join the U17s Regional Academy by Scottish Curling. The girls are excited about the prospect of additional fortnightly training sessions in Perth and Dumfries, as well as occasional Squad Days at the National Curling Academy (NCA) in Stirling.

The off-season preparation by the girls is ramping up with all four girls having found opportunities to train on the ice. Isla Fleming, Erin Auld and Eilish Anderson came together to train at NCA. Isla Kay (Skip) herself had the chance to participate in the Rockslide junior curling camp in British Columbia (Canada), the US Junior Curling Association’s camp in Minnesota (USA) and the Ontario Curling Council’s ‘Trillium’ junior camp Waterloo’Kitchener (Canada), which she thoroughly enjoyed. In the Bev Schroder junior competition held in July in Chaska, she was asked to skip Team Alaska and the team came runners-up in their category, a great achievement.

Team Kay was also announced as a participant in the first U15s Grand Slam of Curling (GSOC) event, in October 2025 in Alberta. As the only Scottish team in attendance, the girls are relishing the opportunity to play in this landmark event, having enjoyed their first competition abroad in Zug (Switzerland) last February. For this event, the team is also delighted to welcome Rachel Grant (Dundee) who will help the girls out in this competition.

Closer to home, the girls have confirmed entries for the U21s National Asham Slam competition in Greenacres (Ayrshire) on 26-28 September 2025, along with all five of the U17s National Slam events that make-up the Scottish Curling season for 2025/26, which runs from September to March. David Aitken, former British Curling Pathway Manager, has also been re-confirmed as the team’s coach for the 2025/26 season. This continues his excellent work mentoring the girls and preparing them for the rigours of upper category competitions.

We look forward to seeing all the teams in their new kits soon!
